The Honourable Robert Nicholson, P.C., Q.C., M.P. for Niagara Falls, ON.
Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada
Born in 1952, Mr. Nicholson has been a lifelong resident of Niagara Falls, where he practiced law and was involved in municipal politics. First elected to the Canadian House of Commons in 1984, Mr. Nicholson served in a variety of capacities, including Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, and Minister for Science and Small Businesses. Re-elected in 2004, he was appointed Chief Opposition Whip in January 2005. In February 2006, Mr. Nicholson was named Leader of the Government in the House of Commons and Minister for Democratic Reform. In January 2007, Mr. Nicholson was appointed Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada by Prime Minister Stephen Harper. Mr. Nicholson holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Queen’s University and a law degree from the University of Windsor. He was called to the bar in 1979 and is a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada. Mr. Nicholson was appointed federal Queen’s Counsel in 1992. He is married to Arlene Nicholson and they have three children. |
